Business Meeting

Had a quick business meeting in one corner of the room before the more important business of magic got started. We discussed and voted on moving the meeting dates to put more distance between our two monthly meetings (passed). New dates are the first Tuesday of the month and the third Wednesday of the month. That will start in November.

It was voted to start the process of becoming an official non-profit organization, including spending money to have a professional guide us through the process.

We discussed picking a date for a public show (parlor type) and setting up auditions for acts. Probably will partner with a non-profit charity and raise money for the club and the charity.

General Meeting

Then it was time for magic — or something, since the theme was Variety Arts Night! Unfortunately someone spread the word that magic was a “variety art” so we can safely say this theme backfired!

Ex Pres David Goldberg started us out with a card trick that failed, so he tried a thumb tie escape, and when he escaped, he somehow had the previously chosen card in his hand!

Frank Pastula performed an ESP effect called Mental Choice, club VP David Boehm showed us Royal Gathering where the court cards had a potluck (well, they got together for some reason), and then John O’Hare did his Poor Man’s Oil and Water which he’s working on for his Magic Castle audition.

Gary Lazok read us a bed time story with the Little Bunny Card Trick and Jeff Peterson followed with a mind-reading effect, telling someone the serial number of their dollar bill. Bruce Kundin kept the mentalism going with Psychic Sam and then new member Raoul Limeres moved us back to cards with his electric deck.

Club Secretary Jay Jennings should have received extra points for sticking with the theme as he performed a juggling routine, then followed it by calling his wife in and doing a quick club passing routine. Then back to magic with Frank Ferrante performing Dice Bomb (great gambling presentation) and cups and balls.

Chris Rose wrapped up the magic session with an expanded version of Hundy 500 and then got everybody started on an interesting discussion on giving and receiving feedback.

Even though the meeting officially ended at that point, quite a few members hung out afterwards showing what they’re working on and talking about magic.
