Here’s a low-key way to get involved in one of our shows — become an usher or “general purpose” helper.
Ushers / General Helpers
This is the front-line crew that makes the audience experience smooth and welcoming. No technical experience needed — just reliability and a friendly attitude.
Ushers typically handle:
- Greeting audience members at the door
- Checking tickets or managing a guest list
- Handing out programs
- Directing people to their seats
- Helping latecomers find seats with minimal disruption to the show
- Monitoring the house during the performance for any issues (medical, disturbance, etc.)
- Helping with post-show crowd flow and exits
General Helpers might also:
- Assist with load-in and load-out (moving cases, setting up chairs, etc.)
- Run errands during setup (food, supplies, last-minute needs)
- Staff a merchandise or raffle table
- Help with a pre- or post-show reception
- Be a runner between the front of house and backstage
What to expect: You’ll likely arrive an hour or two before showtime, have a clearly defined job, and be free to enjoy the rest of the show once the audience is seated. It’s low pressure, social, and a great way to support the magic community without needing any technical skills.
Key traits: punctuality, friendliness, and the ability to stay calm if something unexpected happens with an audience member.
